Rochon Born in Torrance (a suburb in Los Angeles), is the daughter Zelma Staples. Her parents are Samuel Staples a graphic designer and businessman. Cerritos high school in Cerritos is where she graduated from. In 1986, she graduated with honors from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in which she received a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. Her degree also included minors in sociology and theatre. Rochon was back at CSUDH in the year 2016 she was the keynote speaker at the College of Arts and Humanities' commencement ceremonies.

Ullerup was seen as Julia Brynn for the first appearance in Battlestar Galactica: The Remake in 2006 on the Sci Fi Channel. Ullerup performed the role of Ashley Magnus for the first season and then the second on Sanctuary prior to her character being developed. It was her exit that sparked heated discussions among viewers. There was a desire to have the character back for a future episode, before the show was cancelled in 2012. In 2016, Ullerup was cast as Bree O'Brien in Chesapeake Shores. Ullerup was the character Maggie Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact, the movie about the 2015 disaster. In the year 2016 Ullerup has had a recurring role in the role of Dale Travers in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered films series.
